As a mother of four now-grown “children,” I get to relive my mommy moments by being a grandma. As I did with my own kids, I sing a lot to my grandkids – about everything.
Why? I don’t know. I just always seem to sing about everything. For example, at meal time, depending upon whether we’re having breakfast, lunch, or dinner, I sing a variation of:
“It’s time to sit down at the table
It’s time to sit down at the table
It’s time to sit down at the table
To give you your lunches to eat
To give you your lunches to eat
To give you your lunches to eat
It’s time to sit down at the table
To give you your lunches to eat.”
I’m sure you were able to figure out the tune.
Anyway, one time I heard my youngest daughter singing, “I love my mommy so much, I want to throw her in the water, throw her in the water, throw her in the water.”
We didn’t have a pool, but it was a cute song, wasn’t it? She was about 3 years old. We used to sit in the car after I dropped off her siblings at school and I would sing, “You and me, you and me, Brittney, you and me, all alone naturally, Brittney, you and me.” Again, I’m sure you were able to figure out the tune.
She was always a sensitive and sweet kid who probably knew I was miserable in my marriage to her father. Maybe she wanted to put me out of my misery – I don’t know how to swim.
Afterword: I sing as well as I draw.
I think this just goes to show that ye good olde repetition still works a treat!
Yes, I tend to repeat myself repeat myself repeat myself 😉
Sink or swim. Obviously you’ve risen to the top and now it’s your turn to hear your grand kids sing some version of the water song to their mommy!
You’re making me wish I had nanny-cams in all my kids’ homes to watch my grandkids’ hilarious antics and hear them weave their own little tales. They would own YouTube!
