Drivers suffered multiple injuries in a pile-up involving 12 Segways competing in this year’s NASCAR Indy 2014 Segway Speedway World Challenge.
The accident happened during the third lap of the grueling race when world champion Segway driver Arthur “No-Holds-Barred” Higginbottom tried to overtake his arch rival Dorothy Walker at a speed in excess of 11 miles per hour. The two drivers were neck and neck when Higginbottom’s vehicle spun out of control. He smashed into Walker’s Segway, and 10 other drivers piled into them.
Walker suffered two broken nails and was rushed by Segway ambulance to a facility for an emergency pedicure. Higginbottom’s ego is badly bruised and he could be out for the rest of the season. Various drivers damaged their collars and will need new jackets.
“It was carnage,” said one driver. “The impact fractured my coffee flask and I almost suffered a hand burn.”
Emergency crews were criticized for taking too long to reach the scene of the accident. By the time a Segway fire truck arrived many of the drivers had gone into retirement.

And we thought these were real standup guys.
I can see you’re a Segway racer fan.
Hah, love this! Do they have a yellow flag where drivers must reduce speed to 4mph?
It’s out of control behavior like this that opens the door to federal regulation. 🙂
The Feds already intend to ban coffee flasks from racing Segways
You nailed it, Donna. The message is: don’t try this at home.
Such a dangerous sport. You knew that this was bound to happen. It just goes to show that segway racing isn’t for the faint of heart.
