Lady Gaga’s Fantastical PR Stunt

If you were anywhere around a television set or a radio yesterday you were inundated with interruptions from the National Weather Service.  And if you were listening very closely, you heard Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi.

Her publicist is a genius. What a wonderful way to put Lady Gaga in the minds of people when they think of disaster.

Don’t believe me? Here are her lyrics to Paparazzi along with my commentary about why this PR stunt was intended to remind us of Lady Gaga while we are in the midst of a disaster:

We are the crowd
We’re c-coming out
Got my flash on it’s true
Need that picture of you
It’s so magical
We’d be so fantastical

In her publicist’s attempt to draw a connection in our minds between national weather alerts and Lady Gaga, we need to look at the word, flash, or lightening. How many of us run out and join the crowds of onlookers who look for tornadoes? Storms are, after all, magical and fantastical.

Leather and jeans
We’re rock glamorous
Not sure what it means
But this photo of us
It don’t have a price
Ready for those flashing lights
Cause you know that baby I

Again, Lady Gaga’s publicist wants us to think of Lady Gaga when we see lightening (flashing lights), but make sure you’re dressed during a storm, because you don’t want people finding you naked when your house falls down around you.

[Chorus]
I’m your biggest fan
I’ll follow you until you love me
Papa-paparazzi
Baby there’s no other superstar
You know that I’ll be
Your papa-paparazzi
Promise I’ll be kind
But I won’t stop until that boy is mine
Baby you’ll be famous
Chase you down until you love me
Papa-paparazzi

In her previous life Lady Gaga was a storm chaser who took photos of tornadoes that talked to her. She calls them her “boy.” Her love of disastrous conditions can’t help but come out in this life where Lady Gag secretly participates in paparazzi-type behavior every time a storm occurs, chasing down storms with her camera, begging them to love her.

I’ll be a girl backstage at your show
Velvet ropes and guitars
Yeah ’cause you’re my
Rockstar in between the sets
Eyeliner and cigarettes

Basically, what Lady Gaga is saying here is that she will take backstage to the tornado, because the tornado is a rockstar in her mind (while she smokes and lines her eyes in between electrical outs).

Shadow is burnt
Yellow dance and we turn
My lashes are dry
Purple teardrops I cry it don’t have a price
Loving you is cherry pie
Cause you know that baby I

Lady Gaga puts her eyeshadow on after her lashes are dry. The color of her eyeshadow is burnt purple (only in Gaga land does that color exist). Afterwards she dances a Native American shadow dance.

[Chorus]

Real good
(We’re dancing in the studio)
Snap snap to
(That **** on the radio)
Don’t stop
(For anyone)
We’re plastic but we still have fun!

Sometimes Lady Gaga wears things like meat and plastic.

[Chorus]

And there you have information about that marvelous publicity stunt.

Tomorrow the National Weather Service will play Lady Gaga’s Edge of Glory, where Lady Gaga hangs on a tree limb after the storm.

Also, just to keep you updated about how we will hereafter reference storms, what follows are the Lady Gaga versions of natural disasters: Gagado (tornado), Gagacane (hurricane), Gagami (tsunami), Gagaood (flood), Gagaquake (earthquake), Gagalanche (avalanche), Gagano (volcano), and Gagafire (wildfire).
