Parking Lot Peace On Earth

Twas a week before Christmas and I was out on my own
Shopping and running; I would complain and groan
“What has become of this holiday season
People have lost their sense of compassion and reason.”

I had been yelled at, cursed at, pushed and shoved
There was a lack of Christmas spirit; I sure didn’t feel loved
I was screamed at when I parked in a shopping mall space
When I got out of my car, an old lady was in my face

“I saw that spot two rows away
And you stole it from me; you ruined my day.”
I could only offer apologies as I did not see her speed
To take this spot that was now mine indeed

“Will you move and let me have it?” she curtly asked
“Uh, no,” I retorted and in my victory I tried not to bask
I explained that she cannot stake a claim
And a spot two rows away did not bear her name

So, she waved down mall security and called me a thief
I apologized to the security officer for all this holiday grief
He said to the old woman, “She did nothing wrong.
Do not sing your bitter, ‘I hate Christmas parking song’.”

She walked back to her car, but her anger did not end
She yelled that I must be an “Obama-loving friend”
She was yelling about politics in a shopping mall lot?
She was losing her mind on this yuletide rot

The security officer told her it was time to drive away
And she told him to back off and asked if he was gay
I said, “Enough! the space is yours, I will grant your wish
By the way, I like your pro-life bumper sticker and Jesus fish.”

I backed my car out and gave her the spot
A little Christmas spirit in this mall parking lot
The officer thanked me for promoting holiday peace
And for a moment this woman had no venom to release

I did my shopping and returned to my spot
In the far away corner of the mall parking lot
But a surprise on my windshield, a small gift card
From a grateful and sweet mall security guard

“A little gift from me to you
For being the bigger person when you didn’t have to
That woman was wretched; so filled with hate
But your kindness, I did truly appreciate.”

    1. HA HA That is okay, LB. I think she was that type. This was actually last year but I just was talking about it to someone and I decided to put it to rhyme. 🙂

And her grinch-like behavior is reflective of … Tea Party minds??

This was very nicely done Donna.
