Jenna Talackova, the Miss Universe Pageant and Me

I just read that Jenna Talackova  is going to be allowed to compete in the Miss Universe Pageant.  Apparently, there was a question of whether she could meet the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada.  The confusion stems from the fact that she was born a male, had a sex change operation, and Talackova is now legally a female according to her passport, driver’s license and birth certificate which all list her as a woman.

Several things interest me about this.  One, I didn’t know you could get your birth certificate changed.  Good grief, what a revelation.  Maybe there is a way to change the aging process.  I could be the most wrinkled and saggy 39 year-old in the country.  Well, at least until the word gets out.

Second, did she really want the world to know that she was transgender woman?  This can’t be great for your dating pool.  Of course, it’s been over 40 years since I was on the market, so things may have changed a great deal.  I just don’t see it being a great conversation starter over cocktails.

Last, I wonder how the judges will view her.  I mean, come on, even the most sophisticated of us would be sitting there watching her strut across the stage in that swimsuit and those spiked heels thinking about it.  Although I have to admit, advertisers are probably drooling over the publicity this will arouse for the Miss Universe pageant.  If not, they’re not the money-grubbing scoundrels we all love.

Along with Donald Trump, we wish you well, Ms. Talakova.  May the best man, excuse me, woman win.

  1. I know someone who made this change. I would be confused, but for him/her it was the end of the confusion. I guess if it makes you happy, you gotta go for it! Nicely done, Pattie.
