I was lucky enough to have a camera rolling one day in the 1960’s when Martin Luther King Jr. and Neil Armstrong met on the backlot of a major studio. I’ve captured the conversation in text format, if you’re unable to hear what they say during this fateful meeting.
NEIL ARMSTRONG
Excuse me, sir. Is this the moon?
MARTIN LUTHER KING JR
No, this isn’t the moon, dumbass. That’s being filmed in studio 6 down the alley on your left.
NEIL
What are you filming today?
MLK
I have a dream.
NEIL
I’ve had dreams before too, usually involving sexy unicorns. They can be very horny, and quite messy.
MLK
No idiot, I’m here to film the I have the dream speech written by Woody Allen, and produced by paramount in cooperation with the C I A.
NEIL
Oh, I’ve heard of Woody Allen. I loved him in that movie about munchkins. What’s your movie about?
MLK
It’s going to be about creating an environment of racial equality, and judging people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.
NEIL
Sounds hilarious, can’t wait to see it. I’m here today to film scenes where I jump on the moon, and say stuff.
MLK
I gathered as much, with the costume and all.
NEIL
Can I rehearse my lines with you?
MLK
Sure, but I don’t have long, I just ate sushi, and it gives me the runs. I’m going to have to find a bathroom in a few minutes.
NEIL
Ok, I’ll hurry. One small step…for man. one giant leap for…Charles Manson.
MLK
I don’t want to tell you how to do your job, but I don’t think that’s right. Do you know Charles Manson?
NEIL
Yes, he is an actor, writer, musician, and artist. A real rennaissance man. I’ve seen him on the lot quite a bit. I think he wrote the script for the moon landing.
MLK
Well, this moon landing thing could be good for his career…Ok, really got to go now, the tuna is sliding out. But before I go, let’s make a pact to meet again, right here in 10 years.
NEIL
That sounds like a great idea. We could catch up on old times, like this one, and be the best of friends. Good luck with your speech.
