This isn’t as off the wall as listening to a Bon Jovi song of your own free will.

When your son is a budding genius, it’s not totally off the wall to screen his prospective friends. Okay, it probably is off the wall but it isn’t as off the wall as listening to a Bon Jovi song of your own free will or trying to figure out how magnets work. The screening process is quite simple. After the interview, aptitude test and IQ test, we meet the parents and once we put them through the interview, aptitude test and IQ test, we flip a coin and decide if the kid can become Little Dill Y’s friend. So far, the process has worked a treat and his latest friend has a sense of humour we admire greatly:

  1. I thought this was very funny myself. I think the absurdity of it made it funny without implying any disrespect to officers. I think sometimes we all need to lighten up.

      1. I guess it just wouldn’t have been as funny if you had used a Jack O’ Lantern? That would be just as absurd without alluding to cops as “pigs” let alone a slaughtered pig.

I don’t question intent, I suggest that it wasn’t appropriate.

        1. You’re right when you say it wouldn’t have been as funny if I had used a Jack O’ Lantern because there’s no stereotypical tie in with cops and Jack O’ Lantern’s.

  2. Hmmm, short comment … long reply. I read some of your bits, they’re funny. I especially liked “Sugartastic” and “Bert and Ernie.” À chacun son propre.

  3. So far this year 163 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty, 59 by firearms. Do you really think a pig joke is funny? To whom? To their families? To their fellow officers?

    1. Hi Tom, You’re clearly looking at this based on personal experience. Humour is subjective. To use a stereotype and grossly exaggerate it, to the point of ridiculousness is indeed funny to me and to a lot of people. Do I mean to cause offence to law enforcement officers or their families? No I don’t. Do I realise that the majority of people only truly appreciate law enforcement officers when they personally need them? Yes I do. If my post mentioned an individual and that person was personally offended, I would have no hesitancy in removing it and offering an apology. As it is, the post does not do this. I am friends with two police officers who thought the post was really funny and they too looked at it from personal experiences.
