1.Who is Thomas Sullivan? Where were you born? Anything you wish to divulge to your adoring public? And how did you get into writing? Are you a full time writer?

I grew up just outside of Hartford, Connecticut, a town which since Mark Twain died has produced mostly cover bands when it comes to art. The most interesting thing about me is that two of the last three private-sector employers I’ve worked for have gone out of business. To be generous, I left the last one when it was teetering and decided to start writing full time.

2. You live in the Pacific Northwest: Do you hunt Bigfoot and/or have you met him?
Everyone thinks Bigfoot lives in the woods, which is wrong. A few years ago I was vacating an apartment where I had this super-heavy hide-a-bed couch that I inherited from the former occupant. The landlord and I were standing in the living room and I said “I just don’t think I can get it out of here.” The landlord (an ex-cop) looked at me and said “No problem, I brought my gorillas.” Into the room walked two guys. One was a 7-foot tall, hairy guy with huge muscles. True story. So Bigfoot is real – he just got tired of eating forest berries and went into the moving business.

3. Do you know the Twilight vampires?  They live by you too.
No, and they’re not very popular out here. Some people say “they bite”. Others say “they suck”. Either way the scorn is pretty universal. It’s sad.

4. Tell us about your first book “Life in the Slow Lane”
I taught driver education for a cut-rate, family-owned company when I lived in Oregon. I was the guy inside the car with the footbrake. We had old cars that would fit right in with a Dirty Harry movie and far too many kids for our staffing levels and fleet size. So my book is about all the strange and funny things that happened on the road with the kids while dealing with a “disorganized crime family” trying to run a business on the cheap. But the kids were great – lighthearted, funny, always rolling with the chaos.

5. Tell us about your new book?
It’s called So Much Time, So Little Change and is comprised of essays about humor found in unexpected places. I cover weird topics like trying to get myself off of the Terrorist Watch List, having fun getting pulled over by the police, and encountering the Flowbie. I was very fortunate to connect with a wonderful publisher in Utah (Wayman Publishing) and we’re shooting for a March release.

6. How do you think the Seahawks will do next year?
They’re going Super Bowl. Done deal, because a new basketball team will be arriving and putting the fire to their feet.

7. Long term writing goals and where do you see yourself in five years?
I really like the short essay form of humor writing and I like to mix it up between light and dark humor. That’s what makes Humor Outcasts so great – there’s no single style of humor that dominates, it’s more like a glorious, abundant farmers market with something for everyone. So, I plan to keep writing books with a range of humor essays, and I plan to keep writing at Humor Outcasts.
