On the heels of his recent demand that Washington’s NFL team once again be called the “Redskins,” President Donald J. Trump issued an Executive Order on Tuesday, stipulating that The New York Times must use the term “Negro” whenever discussing Black people.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump insisted that “I love all of our dark-skinned Americans, I really do, and they love me, but we need to return to the Golden Age of Race Relations in this country, and that was when there were Negroes, not Blacks or African Americans. People of color were so much friendlier then, don’t you think? We had that peanut guy, George Washington Carver, and Booker T. Washington, and Ella Fitzgerald. Did you know that she was Diana Ross’s mother? Marjorie Taylor Greene told me that, just the other day.
“It’s going to be so wonderful, once we get the Negroes back.”
