A Palindrome Week in Baseball

For you numbers folks, this was your palindrome week. Excited?

4/14/14
4/15/14
4/16/14
4/17/14
4/18/14

You see what I mean? Forwards and backwards, same numbers. Now, we’ll add little bits of baseball history happening on these special days in April.

4/14: In 1925, it’s the first regular season Chicago Cubs game to be broadcast on the radio (WGN). This is something Cubs fans can rejoice about, their grandfathers also got to hear the Cubs lose.

4/15: Big day in MLB. In 1927, Babe Ruth hit his first of 60 home runs. The guy who beat Ruth’s all-time HR record, Hank Aaron, in 1954, got his first MLB hit.  And in 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier. It’s also the day the government can afford a new aircraft carrier from all the taxes collected from MLBaseball players.

4/16: In 1948, the first baseball game is broadcast on television: Cubs vs. White Sox announced by Jack Brickhouse. It is also the first day umpires started wearing make up.

4/17: In 1951, Mickey Mantle plays his first game and gets his first hit. In 1953, Mickey hits a 535′ home run. In 1959, Mantle’s liver gets MVP consideration, barely beating out Whitey Ford.

4/18: In 1923, Yankee Stadium opened. Babe Ruth hit the first home run in the ball park costing $ 2.5 million.  Today, the Yankees spend more for a double header payroll than what the ballpark cost. Make your own joke.
