In the run up to the Iraq War the network news shows were accused of falling down on the job. People said that they failed to question the veracity of claims that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. As if that’s easy to do when you’re busy creating cool graphics and awesome Top Gun style videos.
Well, the drums are now beating for war with ISIS. But at least one network has learned its lesson and is determined to do things differently this time around. That network is CNN:
Last Wednesday a CNN anchor claimed that ISIS is using kittens and jars of Nutella to attract female fighters (it’s rumored that her source was Brian Williams). Apparently the group is attempting to soften its image. I could totally believe this – if you’ve ever tried Nutella you know that the stuff is to die for. And thanks to CNN, the Pentagon now knows that a key to defeating ISIS will lie in shutting down the Nutella pipeline.
War is serious stuff. I’m glad there’s at least one network I can trust this time around.
