Job Interviews Are Like Dating Women

Sexy BossThe dynamics of job interviews with potential employers are much the same as dating women.

Do any of them really know what they want? As someone who is trying to decide if I should concentrate on my own business or continue to work for another company, I’ve begun to realize that both groups are equally clueless as my first round of interviews has initiated.

You are all going to hate me when I say this but the truth is looking for a new job is a lot like looking for a new girlfriend; the best time to look for a new one is when you already have one. There is something about a man who is unavailable that seems to be more tantalizing than one falling at your feet.

It shouldn’t be that way, logically. But who says employers or women are logical? Common sense would suggest that it is desirable for employers to have a qualified candidate enter a job interview and enthusiastically state that the work is really needed and that he is willing to start immediately. But no, employers don’t want an anxious man any more than a woman does. Don’t get me wrong they want you to be interested just not too interested.

By the same token you can’t be a player. That is, if you have multiple interests or side endeavors the question then becomes how will you have time for this full time position?

So, the analogy goes that I’m not supposed to call and ask if I can go out with you tomorrow but if I go out with someone else tomorrow than I‘m obviously not interested.

I guess people are just people no matter what the situation happens to be. I just wish that I could find a few more perfect people like me.
