It’s only cold if you’re standing still!

Well, it’s that time of year again. Once again, the inevitable questions are asked.

“Since you’re a runner, what do you do in the wintertime when it’s cold?”

Frankly, I do the same thing you do. I put on long pants, a long sleeve shirt, a coat, a hat and a pair of gloves and I go for a run. Nothing mysterious about that, it’s pretty basic common sense don’t you think?

“So you run outside in the winter. What happens if it snows?

I leave footprints.

“But aren’t you cold?”

Yep, sure am for the first couple of minutes but so are you until your car heater warms you up. Just like you, it only takes the first mile. After that, I’m getting my exercise for the day in while you’re just sitting there on your butt wishing you were exercising!

“What if it’s icy?

I don’t run on the ice, if I wanted to exercise on the ice I’d go play ice hockey!

Real runners don’t let the weather affect them, they just accommodate it. To anyone else, it’s just an excuse and you remember what your old coach said about excuses!

“Excuses are like ***holes. Everybody has one and they all stink!”
