How to Program Your iPhone to Prevent Texting and Driving

The new iPhone Updates have allowed some very cool features. Of course, Apple likes to embed them as deep as possible for its customers to seek out and discover. Here is a way for you to be polite and quick in response to an incoming text while you are driving or about to be driving.

IMPORTANT: I DO NOT — USE MY PHONE WHILE DRIVING. If you are having a problem with this, a simple solution is to turn off the phone when getting in the car. Problem solved. It is the 1980’s all over again.

Here is a quick way to reply so that you can get back to them later. All in just a few seconds.

First we need to set up the iPhone [THIS WILL ONLY WORK WITH IPHONE UPDATE 5.0 AND HIGHER]:

GO TO SETTINGS

GO TO GENERAL

GO TO KEYBOARD (you will need to scroll down)

GO TO SHORTCUTS

ON TOP RIGHT THERE IS A + BUTTON (or EDIT button). PRESS THAT TO ADD A NEW SHORTCUT

IN TOP LINE, PHRASE type: I am about to be driving. I will text/call as soon as I can.

ON BOTTOM LINE, SHORTCUT type: df

HIT SAVE BUTTON

I use df because it is likely that you will hit NOT those two keys in succession when typing any words. You can obviously change either the phrase or shortcut names. You can make as many as you’d like.

Now close out of the app by hitting the Home button (The big button on the phone).

Open up text messages or notes and type in df in the message field. See how it works!

Quick, easy and polite.

Get back to driving and stay undistracted.

You can also make messages for other situations that come. If you are teacher, for example, you could have one that says, “I am about to teach people things. I will get in touch as soon as I can. Thank you.” Here are a few more that might come in handy:

Lfud: I love you so much dear. Would you get some Ben and Jerry’s on your way home?

jxt: I just got pulled over for texting and driving. Can I call you collect later on?

xxx: My husband is coming up the driveway. Turn around now! Luv ya. 😉

kxx: Kids are out playing. Come to the bedroom now. Mommy wants her Daddy. 😉

fdwi: Call the lawyer. I know I am about to fail this breathalyzer test. 🙁

ddude: Stop texting me with nothing to say. Just call me.

hup: This is a quick text to see if you want to hook up tonight. Get back to me.

Enjoy and have fun.

Peace always,

Jason
