Monica Lewinsky is on Twitter #HereWeGo

high heel shoesMonica Lewinsky recently joined Twitter. As of this writing she isn’t following anyone and has approximately 74.5 thousand followers. Her first tweet, re-tweeted over four-thousand times, was #HereWeGo. Recently she has set herself up as a spokesperson against cyber-bullying and has claimed to be one of the first people to become a target on the internet. During the time of the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal there wasn’t nearly the public social activity online as there is now, but there is validity to the claim that the scandal ushered in a new era of public participation in news events. It was a fairly unknown blog at the time that at least in part broke the story.

There seems to be two basic camps of people who have an opinion about her. The one estimation of Monica paints her as a victim, a hapless child who was taken in by a worldly boss. The other outlook is of a young adult who knew exactly what she was doing to gain fame and everything that comes with it. Both her supporters and detractors have been very active on Twitter.

Monica Lewinsky would not be the first starry eyed young woman to become smitten with an older boss. Nor would she be the first opportunist to seduce a man of power. These are among the reasons that rules against sexual relationships with subordinates exist in the first place. Yes, this one is all on President Clinton. Overall I like Bill Clinton and the 90s were a good time, but if he would have been in law enforcement or almost any other public service and had been caught in a sexual relationship with a subordinate his career would have gone right down the crapper then and there.

It is for this reason I find it odd that some liberals, who claim to champion women’s rights especially in regard to sexual harassment in the workplace, are among Monica’s critics claiming that she is the woman who brought down an otherwise good presidency. After all, how could we expect the helpless leader of the free world to handle Monica Lewinsky? They also worry that Monica might impact Hillary Clinton in 2016.  I can’t help but wonder if it would have been a conservative Republican president in office at the time that there wouldn’t have been more cries of “don’t blame the victim” from the left. None-the-less what everyone tends to not realize is that the “other woman” turning out to be a conniving temptress is among the more benign possibilities of outcome when a high ranking governmental official decides to get some strange

When a hot young intern or an up and coming reporter with a great set of perkies happens to grab the attention of a power intoxicated politician there is the danger that she might be a terrorist operative or an agent for a foreign government. How would you like an ISIS enamored vixen sitting on the lap of the President in the Oval Office?

So if it makes you feel better to call Monica a whore that’s fine. At the same time presidents are the ultimate rock stars with interested women of both good and bad intentions around them all of the time. It was Bill Clinton who potentially could have endangered himself, his family, and the security of the country. It could have been Monica or a woman of any other name who happened to come along (no pun intended) but it was Bill Clinton who allowed the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal to happen.

For my money what Bill Clinton should have done was booked a room at the Watergate and had the Secret Service set him up with some hookers. I’m sure they could have provided some great references.

  1. Billy, I loves me some Pres Clinton, but I absolutely agree with you. When I think of the very stupid things I did as a young woman…and even sometimes still do now…I can’t help but #smh at the two of them. I really hope that I’ve taught my girls better because the economy is very volatile and I have no idea if they’ll be able to afford the dry cleaning bills by the time they’re in the real world. 😉

    1. I agree, and again the people on top (figuratively speaking) always should get the bulk of the blame for sexual misconduct. With the power comes greater responsibility.

  2. While I’m no fan of Clinton, I think it’s safe to say there’s plenty of blame to go around. Still, I can’t help thinking it would be hard for any young star-in-their-eyes person to say no the the P.O.T.U.S. Seems to me Bill was the married, experienced man, using his power and personality to get, so to speak, oral in the Oval.
