Every Cliché Has Its Day

Be the Voice Not the Echo Sticky Note Saying QuoteOne thing I cannot stand whether it’s within the written word, in the common vernacular, or in a highbrow speech is the use of clichés. For some reason, however, after all is said and done I end up hearing more of them than you can shake a stick at. I bang my head against the wall trying not to be influenced by them but when push comes to shove I end up traveling down the road well-traveled and beating a dead horse with the same half-baked phrases that are as old as the hills.

I’ve been there and done that. Now, I have come to the realization that no one should have any pie in the sky high hopes that being original is a piece of cake. Being innovative and making our dreams come true is hard work and as a matter of fact what being personally resourceful boils down to is practice, and practice makes perfect. There is no beating around the bush without pain there is no gain. The harder we work the luckier we get.

There are no traffic jams on the road to the extra mile and along the way you have to take the good with the bad. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet but then again every rose has its thorn. Some people are saddened that roses have thorns yet others rejoice that thorns have roses. Life truly is what we make it and we should stop to smell the roses. Hopefully along the way we will find the diamond in the rough and our golden opportunity. Through preparedness we can then seize the moment to be all that we can be.

When you get down to brass tacks we all must resolve to be unique. It may be easier said than done but getting started is the hardest part and after all you can’t learn to swim without getting into the water.

In a nutshell being original means being true to yourself. Don’t try to sound like others or fit in with the crowd. There’s no time like now to put your best foot forward and let the chips fall where they may. There’s a first time for everything and today is the first day of the rest of your life.

At the end of the day the fact is that it all comes down to being real. I mean seriously for real. Really.

  1. I couldn’t agree more, Billy. Cliches are a dime a dozen, so I avoid them like the plague.
