When I travel, I try to keep the value of the jewelry I bring with me to about $1 million, give or take a few pounds of gold, or kilograms, which is how they say it in Paris.
For shorter trips, like to the cottage, it’s even less, if you can believe that. Usually just what I’m going to wear for the weekend, say in the lake, BBQing or splitting firewood. Probably under $500,000. A few gold necklaces, diamond rosary and my pearl studded speedo.
I certainly don’t announce to anyone what I’m bringing. That encourages robbery at gunpoint, and it ruins the surprised look on my guest’s faces when I’m adorned with my medieval ankle bracelets.
