Morning runs?

4 AM and my bladder says “wake up”, time to pee. OK, that’s done, back to sleep for 2 more hours.

“No Way” my brain says. Now it’s time to think of all those “must do” projects that never seem to get done. Hmmm, how am I going to clean out the garage this weekend or I’ve got to organize my clothes drawers? Or, when am I going to find time to get that report done that the boss wants by Friday or what should I get my wife for our anniversary (what anniversary is it anyway)? So on and on it goes until, finally, I give up and get up. What to do now?

OH, let’s go for a run! What, you’re crazy!

Actually, not so much, there are plenty of very good reasons for an early morning run.

First, we all know that the early bird gets the worm but since you’re not a bird what you get, according to research, is an effective way to lower your blood pressure plus providing you with better sleep cycles at night. Running first thing in the morning on an empty stomach can allow you to burn 20% more fat than exercising later in the day.

Running first thing in the morning means you are much less likely to blow off exercising later in the day due to other obligations like work you brought home from the office or the kids’ soccer game.

So wake up, get up, dress up and get out the door. Once you have this morning routine you’ll never have to fight with your early morning brain again!
