You mightn’t believe this and I wouldn’t blame you but the first appearance of the mobile phone was in the 1968 film “Planet of the Apes”. Charlton Heston thought the phone was a gun and immediately became its best friend. Coincidentally, this was when Heston first fell in love with guns. Lots of stuff has happened since then and none as significant as the deleted scene where Heston attempts to call his arms dealer and nearly blows his own ear off. Historically as well as culturally, we can trace the evolution of apes and mobile phones from this series of images:

My phone puts me at Rake-Guy level (whats with the white stripes on his shin, did he rake off the hair?)
That’s probably the best phone ever made.
While mocking Charlton Heston is always fun, my sadness is realizing I’ve owned all of those cell phones.
The first one was the best one!
I know this has nothing to do with your point, but I am a bit partial to the guy with the spear over his shoulder. Cute!
i’ve never had a point in my life!
It’s always easy to “date” movies by the technology of the cellphones and computers.
and the cost of the plan they’re on!
