Spiritual Innovation

The other night I watched a video by Deepak Chopra. The film was about happiness, and it was excellent (as is all of Mr. Chopra’s work). But later something occurred to me –while the insights on peace and calmness that spiritual teachers offer are greatly needed in these troubled times, they reach a relatively small audience. Why?

The problem, as I see it, is that spiritual teaching lacks mass-market appeal. This is probably due to the fact that the real teachers tend to eschew attention and celebrity-status. But, like anything in life, that could change without the core message being lost. Here’s how:

Everyone knows of the late, great rapper Tupac Shakur. His songs revolved around the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism, and other social problems. Well, Deepak addresses many of the same issues. So, it’s time for a spiritual leader to meld the two and emerge as the world’s first spiritual rapper: D-pak Fo’sure.

Just picture the rhymes this innovative guy could bust out on his way to both stardom and global human healing:

“Drop the gun tough-guy, don’t put no cap in my ass,

Find your peace from within, maybe check out Ram-Dass”

“Takin’ those pills, head full of crap from Big Pharma

Find your purpose in life, embrace the guiding Law of Dharma”

“We have the choice, yo, we change our futures

But you piss off your girl, Doc be putting in sutures.”

Back in the day, no one had more followers than Buddha or Jesus. But today? Justin Bieber has 40 million Twitter followers and Deepak Chopra has 1.5 million.

It’s time for D-pak to show up and change that.
