A Question

funnyguy

I sometimes struggle with social cues and appropriateness. For example, take my last job interview. It got off to a shaky start when the interviewer said “Do you have any questions before we begin?” and I said “Just one. Can I smoke in here?” Ten minutes later we were done and I left feeling baffled. Should I have brought an ashtray?

So here’s my new challenge. I’m heading back home next month. It’s been a while since I’ve been back, so I could really use some advice on something.

Remember when you were a little kid and your parents’ distant relatives would visit from out of town? But they hadn’t seen you for a few years. And when they first saw you they’d hold a hand in the air, a foot or so below your head. And then they’d say “Oh my god, I remember when you were this tall!!”

Here’s my question: If I see those relatives on this trip, is it okay to hold my hand a foot above their heads and say “Oh my god, I remember when you were this tall!!”

I really do love my relatives. So any advice you might have on this is greatly appreciated.

  1. You could say “Yeah, when I was that small, you used to give me this amount of money. Nor that I’m this size, can you putt your hand in your pocket and help a brother out?”

  2. Just hold your hands outstretched on each side and day, “I love you this much.” Works every time.
