The Murder Game

So much for family love at the holidays.  Three brothers were finally charged with the murder of their mother because the woman had the nerve to ask them to play Yahtzee last Christmas Day.  Yes, all three of them decided that she needed to be strangled and suffocated for interrupting their Christmas cheer with such a ridiculous demand.  After they all took a chance at playing murderer, the eldest son carted her body to South Dakota thinking that the ground in South Dakota would be less frozen than the ground in Minnesota.  When he realized his mistake, he put her back in the car and took her back to Minnesota.  I’ll go out on a limb here and say that the intelligence gene seems to be absent from this family’s DNA code.

This entire murder is shrouded in mystery. Yahtzee is a harmless game. It doesn’t require brains or brawn to win.  I could see tempers flaring over a heated, physical game of Twister or Charades or even a mentally-exhausting round of Scrabble — but Yahtzee?

I have to think that there are factors at play here that the police have not gone public with.  However, until we know what triggered the violence and subsequent murder in these three young men, it’s best to take precautions to avoid a similar fate. First, if you live in Minnesota, you should move. To be honest, it’s a good time since your state might not have beer in the not too distant future, and let’s face it – you need beer to survive the severe, frozen winters and the mosquito-laden summers.  If you can’t move, stay away from board games. Need a new family fun activity? I heard Russian Roulette is a blast.

  1. He was thinking in the right direction about it being warmer in the South. It was the Dakota part that fooled him.

  2. Wow, I could understand if it had been Monopoly, but damn! I’ll stick to on-line games, where we only threaten to kill one another.

  3. All they need to do is play dumb (pun intended), and a jury of their peers will exonerate them. That seems to be the trend in this country for high profile cases.

  4. The news was unfair to the brothers. A crucial piece of information was left out. This was the third time she had asked them in one week! How annoying!
