Pointing the accusing finger of blame at my English teacher

August 12, 2012

I never thought I’d hear myself write this but I’m thinking of giving up reading, forever and ever. The understanding part of reading has just become too confusing. I know exactly who’s not at fault for this and it’s me. Some simple, private investigating has pointed the accusing finger of blame at my English teacher and it’s this very teacher of English who will one day be named and shamed in a novel way that I have yet to decide on:

Bill Y Ledden

I can't say I'm brilliant until I get this duct tape off my mouth!

English teachers have this way of killing any love of reading that might be germinating inside the average student. You really have to work to take something like “The Scarlet Letter”** or “Huckleberry Finn” and make it so boring that the poor student won’t want to even think about it for the rest of his life.

Those who survive high school English with their love of reading intact are lucky.

**Except for that first chapter about the old custom house. That part IS boring.

You made my point, much better than I attempted to.

    So true!

HA HA! Every student has wanted to say this. I could put in my two cents but every teacher’s union in the world would jump all over me.

I think you should put in your two cents and worry about the consequences later!
