Italian Author Maela Torre Weaves a Story of Romance, Friendship and Family with Reality of a Dream

Reality of a Dream is the latest title from HumorOutcasts Press. This is a wonderful story of love, friendship and strength. We are so proud of the young author Maela Torre, and we think we will be hearing a lot more from her in the future.  Please take a look at her Reality of a Dream. It is available in Print and Kindle.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING AND WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE?

I started to write when I was  a little girl, I was probably around 8. I read Little Women and I absolutely loved Jo March. She was so strong, independent, funny and clever. I was so fascinated by the fact that she was a novelist that I decided to be one too.

WHAT PART OF ITALY DO YOU LIVE IN?

I live in a quiet town in the Northwest of Italy, in Piedmont: a beautiful region surrounded by the Alps.

HOW DO YOU KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT SCOTLAND?

The first time I went to Scotland when I was 21, I knew nearly nothing about the country, but it was love at first sight. I go back there as often as I can. Scottish people are really amazing and so down to earth, funny and friendly and I always feel like at home there. I had the chance to visit many places and to learn many things about Scottish culture and history and I was never disappointed. The love for that country also helped me become more fluent in English, a language I love very much. After I finished high school, I could barely speak it, so I basically learned it by myself watching movies in their original language and chatting with friends all over the world.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA OF THIS STORY?

It all started from the scene where Comma eats Emma’s cereals. I wrote that part and then I asked myself, why would an Italian girl be living with a Scottish boy? How did they meet? Why are they friends? So I wrote all the rest of the story giving the characters a shape and a background story and I found out that the more I was writing, the more I needed to say about them.

WHO WOULD YOU SAY YOUR PRIMARY AUDIENCE FOR YOUR WORK IS?

I don’t think it’s necessarily a story for women, it’s definitely a novel for romantics and people who love real stories, stories that could happen to anyone, everywhere. Apart from love, it’s also a story of strength, friendship, family.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK?

It didn’t take long to write the story, probably six months or so, but every now and then I would read it from the beginning and add something.

YOUR BOOK IS IN ITALIAN AND ENGLISH? ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT THE PROSPECT OF SO MANY READERS FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRY WILL READ IT?

It’s thrilling!! I love it. It’s such a great opportunity and I will never thank HumorOutcasts Press enough for this. Being a novelist is what I always wanted to be and now that I am one I can hardly believe it. I really hope people will love this story just as much as I loved writing it.

ARE THE CHARACTERS IN YOUR BOOK BASED ON ANYONE IN YOUR LIFE?

Reality of a dream is a reflection of my life, not necessarily because of the story itself but for the things surrounding it. Every character is been inspired by someone I know or I have met in my real life, that’s probably why I love this book so much. I had the chance to put all the people and things that I enjoy the most in the same place. Marvin for example, who is my favorite character, is based on a man I met the second time I went to Scotland. He was actually working in a farm just like Marvin and he was just the essence of the Scottish people which I really love.  Mostly, all the photos described in the book are photos I actually have and some of the names are names connected with my life like Paolo who was my favorite teacher at high school or Emma which is the name I’d like to give to my daughter one day.

This is why people should buy my book, there’s plenty of little things that make life special in it, many things people can relate to, many occasions to laugh, to fell in love with the characters and get carried away by them.
