“Hey Rick! You can’t move that golf ball off the kelp! You have to play it as it lies!”

Text taken from the book Baranof Island’s Eastern Shore:
The annual Port Alexander Trail Closure Open Golf Tournament is held in August when trolling for salmon is shut down for a time. The course is between salt water and the rocks and it narrows as the tide rises. The fairway consists of rocks, kelp and beach grass, but the event is popular with both residents and visitors. The tournament was started more than a dozen years ago by Kevin and Karen Mulligan who still manage it. In October 1996 a check for $1,000, proceeds from the 11th and 12th annual tournaments, wa presented to the Sitka Pioneers’ Home.
