Ballade of the Climate Change Deniers

We’re urged to work hard to provide a good world for posterity,
But sharing more fairly is something we ought to discuss.
And why is it us who’s responsible for their prosperity?
The time may have come that we throw them right under the bus:
We’re not, after all, in this free-market rat-race for charity —
And when has posterity ever done something for us?

I’m struck, between them and ourselves, by the dissimilarity —
And it’s no good to argue that each generation is thus —
They’re needy and greedy, ungrateful, and spoiled, this posterity:
The laziest people who ever might lead you to cuss;
I’m sure you, like me, are dismayed by the awful disparity;
And when has posterity ever done something for us?

We suffer recessions and downturns with some regularity —
And those are not things that you characterize as a plus.
We put off rewards until later — though let’s have some clarity:
It’s not that we think that they ought to be making a fuss —
But nothing and silence is all that we get from posterity!
And when has posterity ever done something for us?

L’envoi
Posterity! All that we hear all the time is posterity!
I don’t want to sound like society’s gloomiest gus
I only aver what I see as an obvious verity:
So when has posterity ever done something for us?
