If You Haven’t Read The Latest Books by Stacey Roberts, Heidi Clements and Deb Martin-Webster, You Are Missing Out on Some Great Reads!

Woman WritingI just finished Trailer Trash With a Girl’s Name, I’m in the middle of Welcome to Heidi, and I plan to start Always, Montana next. I’m a slow reader, so bear with me, fellow authors. It takes a while sometimes.

When I say “fellow authors” I do a little double-take. The fact is I’m in awe of those three people. They can take little things like words and put them in phrases, sentences and paragraphs in ways that either make you laugh out loud, want to cry, get angry or all three, and they know how to make those words flow in the right way to tell a good story.

Stacey Roberts takes a dysfunctional childhood and makes it drop-dead funny. I laughed out loud at just about every other word. He brings the reader into his world and makes us fall on the floor laughing at it with him.

Heidi Clements is just plain uproarious, and she doesn’t mind bonking us over the head with her often very pointed opinions and observations.

If Always, Montana is anything like Love, Montana, I am prepared to sigh, giggle, laugh and become totally involved in the lives of its characters. At some point, I might be able to put the book down temporarily, to do something like go to bed, but don’t count on it.

There is just one thing that makes me go “gulp.” Someone like me, who has not quite earned the titles “writer” and “author,” is in the same company, on the same website, with the likes of these three and other talented wordsmiths, including our leader, Donna Cavanagh.

The first thought that comes to my mind is, “What the hell am I doing here?”

Fortunately, that thought is soon shoved aside by the second thought, which is, “I’m inspired and challenged, I have a lot to say and I’m going to keep learning.” This must be the winning thought, because I am sure as hell not going to stop writing, now that I’m starting to know what I’m doing.

In the meantime, it’s great to have role models.

  1. Bill Y approves these and is even going to learn to read because of them.!

    1. I’m so glad! When I publish my first book, you can be my first critic. 😉

  2. Such inspiring accolades. All of my years of drinking finally paid off! But seriously, thank you so much for your support and kind words.

    1. My pleasure! When they make the movie, I want to see that, too!

As for years of drinking making a person a fine writer, I’m hoping that my years of eating fattening food and hating to exercise will also pay off. We’ll see. 😉

  3. It’s the day before Independence Day. I’m drinking tea and putting stamps on my mail without fear of any kind of Imperial overlord when I open Humor Outcasts and see this post. I am touched to be in such great company, and have such nice things said about me and my wee book. Writers need inspiration to keep going. I’m good for about a decade. Thank you, Kathy. From the bottom of my heart.

  4. Keep sharing your thoughts Kathy. I love reading them on the HO site. Your book picks are great, so you won’t be disappointed.

    1. Ah, thanks! It’s always good to have a fan! And if there’s one thing I’m pretty good at it’s picking and reading great books. 😀
